What does an interim CEO cost in Italy?
{ + }
Day rates run between EUR 1,500 and EUR 3,500 per day. Monthly retainers for a full-time interim CEO run EUR 25,000 to EUR 55,000. The number is driven by company size, complexity, urgency, time commitment and legal title.
How fast can an interim CEO start?
{ + }
Days, not months. After a 30-minute intro call, a written scope and price land within 48 hours. On-the-ground start is typically within two weeks. For crisis mandates, faster.
What should you look for in an interim CEO?
{ + }
Operator scars on a real P&L, two prior reps of the situation you face, decision speed under pressure, a clean exit record, language and culture fit, and references from former chairs (not friends). Full checklist on the evaluate page.
How is the interim CEO contract structured?
{ + }
Short interim engagement contract between the operating company and the interim CEO (or the CEO's company). Three- to twelve-month initial term with monthly extension. Notice 30 days either side. NDA and IP assignment included. Director liability insurance in place before the legal title is registered in Italy.
Day rate vs monthly retainer. Which is right?
{ + }
Day rate when scope is variable or the mandate is under three months. Monthly retainer when the role is full-time for three months or more, capped at agreed working days. Pick one, do not blend.
Can an interim CEO be the legal Amministratore Delegato in Italy?
{ + }
Yes. The interim CEO can be appointed and filed as Amministratore Delegato in the Italian Companies Register. Filing carries personal liability, so director liability insurance must be in place before the registration takes effect.
Interim CEO, CEO ad interim or Direttore Generale ad interim. What is the difference?
{ + }
In practice, the same temporary executive chair. The names change by legal title and reporting line. CEO ad interim and Direttore Generale ad interim are the Italian-language labels used in local governance. The hiring logic stays the same: fixed-term leader, full authority, defined outcome, clean exit. See the Italian-language guides at interimceo.it, ceoadinterim.it and direttoregeneraleadinterim.it.
Will the interim CEO recruit the permanent CEO?
{ + }
Often, yes. The interim CEO can either lead the search or work alongside the chosen search firm. The clean exit and successor briefing are part of the original mandate.
